Multiscreen Trading Monitors

I’ve got a number of acquaintances that are a part of the day trading stock industry, as well as the FOREX cash flow trading industry as well.  They all have a few things in common.  Number one, they all have the attitude of a “do it yourself” entrepreneur.   Second, they all trained themselves- and what I mean by that is that none of these guys have a traditional education in finance, they are all self-taught and did so (for the most part) by reading some books and watch what other traders were doing.  It may sound silly to most of us, because we are taught from a young age that education is most important thing we can acquire, but these guys don’t think like the rest of the hive.  And apparently taking this approach has work because all of them have a network over one million dollars, so are even into 8 digits net worth, crazy- I know!  The other thing that all of these guys have in common is that they all use multiscreen trading monitors for their day-to-day activities.  Regardless of what type of trading they are into, stocks, bonds or FOREX (currency exchange), they all have a somewhat elaborate setup that includes multiple trading screens.

Most of these guys, as mentioned, prefer to learn for themselves as opposed to being told what to use and what to buy.  However, they are a somewhat close knit group and will often times seek the advice of the members of their small group.  I think this goes a long way to explain why these guys are using multiple monitor computers.  Once one of them got multiscreen trading monitors, the idea spread within the group pretty quickly and they all decided to jump in and getting multiple monitors as well.  It is an interesting idea to say the least, but more on that in a minute.

The first guy to get multiple monitors within the group is a FOREX trader that prefers to remain anonymous, I will call him Rob.  Rob has been trading currency for almost 10 years now and he’s quite good at what he does.  You know how I mention a few of these guys had 8 digits of net worth?  Well Rob is that guy.  He’s sharp as a tack and quick to make smart decisions when it relates to his business.   He knows how to view the market and how to manipulate trades to his advantage 98 percent of the time.  Like I said, he’s very good at what he does.  He started using multiscreen trading monitors back in 2006 when he decided that having multiple computers running at the same time was inefficient given the technology for powerful processors had increased, but running a single monitor didn’t give him enough desktop space.  He actually missed a few trades because he was fumbling between charts and graphs and didn’t see a tell-tell sign that he should buy selling.  If there is one thing that Rob absolutely hates to do it is lose money.  He finds that to be extremely frustrating.

Array Stands

By now, nearly everyone that I know is using a multiple monitor set up, but one of the big questions I still get asked frequently is about the various options that you have for array stands.  There are so many cool options that most people are not aware of when they go to purchase an array stand.  Of course, some of the options can end up being a little bit more expensive, but depending on what you are using your multiple monitor computer set up for, you should at least take some of the various options into account before making a decision.  And this is one of those decisions that should be made based on need, not cost (within reason.)  Choosing the correct array stand can really help with your productivity and usage overall.

So what types of multiple monitor stands are there?  Well the two main types of stands are the horizontal stand and the vertical stand.  In addition you have the quad and hex stands that are a combo of both types.  Let’s start with the horizontal stand since it is the most popular.  Horizontal array stands line up monitors side by side, usually 3-4 in a row.  This tends to be a favorite array stand and configuration because it is very natural feeling.  Sometimes the shape will vary to make the monitor form almost a horseshoe shape.  This is helpful because it really creates a nice workflow from one monitor to the next.

The next type of configuration is the vertical array stand.  This looks like two monitors stacked on top of each other.  Primary users of this configuration tend to be day traders and FOREX investors.  They are good for additional monitoring space of charts and graphs; however, the average user tends to find this configuration a little more difficult to get use to.  I will say, however, that as far a space saving array of stands, this is probably one of the best.

In addition to the horizontal and vertical arrays you also have quad, hex and octo configurations for 6 and 8 monitor computers.  Typically used only by guys that run serious amounts of data these configurations take up a lot of space and use a ton of energy.  However, if you’re running many programs at once this array of stands is very convenient.

Hopefully this helps sum up the various array of stand for you.  There are lots of choices and you should take a number of things into consideration before actually making your purchase.  Price may be a small factor, but the bigger question is what is you going to use these for and how much space do you have.

master this skill, playing on only one table seems boring. In fact, if you watch the experts, you’ll notice that most of them have multiple tables going at once at nearly all times. If the guys that just play high stakes heads up poker like to use multiple screens. You’ll find that as you progress in your game, playing multiple screens does more than just make you game run smoother- you can greatly increase you profits because you’ll be increasing your number of hands. So why would you want to multi-table? Doesn’t that increase your margin of error? Well the short answer is no. Multi-tabling with multiple monitors is simply playing more than one table at once. For the big guys it may be 2 or 4 heads up games, but for those just starting out the easiest type of game to multi-table is small tournaments, such as a $5 or $10 sit and go. Why is this easier than say a ring game? Well, with tournaments you generally don’t have to rely on reads and every little play as much. Sit and Go tournaments are much more about following the flow of the tournament and knowing when to push your chips around. So what kind of computer do you need if you want to multi-table with multiple monitors? Well obviously you need a system that’s going to be fast enough to handle all of your monitors and run the computer software. I suggest no less than a Pentium i5 and 4 gigabytes of RAM or memory. You also need a solid graphics card that can handle multiple monitors, such as an NVidia or an ATI- both of these companies are excellent and make graphics cards specifically for multiple monitor computers. You also need to make sure that you have high resolution monitors. There is nothing worse than trying to read cards on a low resolution monitor, so make sure you stick with 1080p.

If you can’t afford an expensive computer or graphics card you have some other options as well. Matrox makes an awesome product called the DualHead2Go and TripleHead2Go. This is an adapter that makes it possible to connect multiple monitors to a single computer with a USB output. This is an awesome choice for someone using a laptop that might not want to upgrade, or just someone who doesn’t want to do a hardware install on their computer. Either way, using the TripleHead2Go is an easy way to add 3 additional monitors to your laptop.

Next you need to consider what type of arrangement you want to set your monitors up in when you have your computer ready to go. There are several different types of arrangements that tend to work pretty well. First you have the horizontal or side-by-side arrangement. This works great for some people especially with 3 monitors or less. You can also setup a vertical arrangement or stacked- one monitor on top of the other. While there are those that prefer this arrangement, I don’t care for it. And then there are those that use a stand that stacks the monitors 2 or 3 high and 3 or 4 side by side. Depending on how many poker tables you plan on playing at once, this may be the best option for you. Regardless of what you decide to do, you will find that there are special stands for every type of arrangement you can imagine and even companies that will custom build and design your stand for you! This is exactly what some people need, and they can’t use one of the above mentioned arrangements for the multiple monitors for whatever reason. Setting Up Multiple Screens with Windows 7

Today I’m going to show you how to setup multiple screens using Windows 7. If you’re already a Windows 7 user, then you’re in luck, because no other version of Windows has worked quite as well as Windows 7 does for using multiple screens. We’re also going to show you how to use some additional tools and get sweet backgrounds for your new multi-screen setup.
In case you weren’t sure why it’s a good idea to setup multiple monitors, here are some of the most popular reasons:

This article is going to show you how to setup your multiple screens with just the Windows 7 native too (no special software needed.) We’ll also highlight some additional tools that you can use if you’d like to go beyond what Windows 7 is capable of doing.
To get started there are a few things that you’ll want to have on hand:
1. Extra monitors (DUH!)
2. Extra cables
3. Video outputs for each of your monitors (we’ll go in depth later)
For dual screens, the easiest solution is to either buy a video card with multiple outputs or to buy an adapter like the Matrox DualHead2Go (or the TripleHead2Go if you want 3 monitors.) Above 3 monitors and the smart decision is to get multiple video cards that support at least 2 monitors each. Depending on what you’re going to be using the computer for, the quality of your video cards (i.e. how much you spend) may vary. For my particular system I have a an onboard video card that is attached to the motherboard for one monitor, then I purchased a NVidia Quadro that has 4 outputs. This works great by the way and was just under $500 at multi-monitors.com. Important side note: some onboard video cards won’t work if the system detects an external card as well. So you need to make sure it will work if you are counting on using the onboard card with an extra graphics card. Adding a graphics card is pretty common sense, and we won’t go into the details of the install in this article. That said, just make sure you discharge any static electricity you may be carrying around by touch something metal BEFORE you start tampering the inside of your computer!
Now, as I mentioned above, more and more people have started using multiple screens and so Windows and video card companies have taken notice. The result is that Windows 7 makes setting up your extra monitors a breeze. When I tried to setup up multiple screens back in 1999 with Windows 98 the driver support was extremely poor because the demand simply wasn’t there. Windows XP improved, but it still was quite a shot in the dark. To be honest with you, I have no idea how I was eventually able to get my multiple screens working under Windows XP- I just know that it somehow worked. And let me tell you, there was plenty of cussing, throwing things, uninstalling and reinstalling to be had during the whole process. I’m pretty sure there may have even been some human sacrifice (SHHHHHHH!!!!!- kidding.)
However, Windows 7 is different- quite different. When I first setup my multiple screens with Windows 7 I was actually running mismatched monitors, both had completely different resolutions and I was using two different types of video cards- one was NVidia and the other was ATI! Windows 7 detected everything just fine and there was very little trouble getting these multiple screens to work correctly.
The one thing that you will have to place with are the orders that monitors are in. So for example, I’m using 5 total monitors and I want Windows to know:
a) Which monitor is my “home” monitor or primary monitor.
b) Starting from left to right, how the monitors are arranged.
These two things allow me to easily switch from one to the other with my mouse, without having to figure out where they are at. If you click on the start menu and type screen resolution in the box you’ll get to the resolution settings. In the event that the newly hooked up displays weren’t auto detected, this is where you can make Windows find them. You’ll know it detected them because monitor will have a large white number displayed (only momentarily). Now you can setup the orientation however you like and mix the placement up to your liking as well. Before you leave the display settings window, make sure that all the monitors say extend these displays. If they say duplicate or show desktop only then you’ll want to correct that. Basically, you want windows to think that all of your screens are a giant extension of your desktop.
Now, if you’re like me and you originally tried to setup monitors in the 90s, guess what? You’re probably thinking, “WOW, that was EASY!” Mostly because you no longer have to search for drivers, you don’t have to keep a messy box full of 100 3.25 inch floppy disks. Thankfully Windows can detect most drivers, and even if it can’t, we’ve got the internet- the greatest invention in the history of mankind.
Here are some tips to help make sure you using your multiple screens aren’t a drag:
1. Increase the mouse sensitivity. You’ll notice almost immediately that having multiple screens (especially if you use more than 2) is an extremely big area and your mouse pointer is absolutely tiny. This is a setting you’ll have to play with to get right and then probably get use to, but trust me when I say you don’t want it to take 10 swipes of the mouse to get from screen A to screen Z. If you hit the start menu button and type mouse, you open the mouse settings. Under the pointer options you should see an option for mouse speed. You can also enhance the pointer precision here as well.
2. Using the CTRL visibility feature can be a huge help as well. With multiple screens, you’ll often find yourself wonder, “Where did my mouse go?” Fortunately with the CTRL visibility feature you just just click Control ) CTRL and when you do a large flicker will guide you to your pointer. This is a huge help, BELIEVE ME!
3. Using master keyboard shortcuts will help you speed up your workflow. You’ll want to save time by learning shortcuts so that you don’t have to drag your mouse so far to do every little task. Time is money and if you’ve installed multi-screens you likely wanted to improve your productivity. Using master keyboard shortcuts can help! A few of my favorites are:
• Windows Key + Spacebar – this temporarily enable Aero desktop peek that works in a similar fashion to the little peek button in the system tray taskbar.
• Windows Key + Home – This will minimize all of the Windows open except for the active one.
• Windows Key + Up or Down Arrow – This will minimize or maximize the active window.
• Windows Key + Left or Right Arrow – This activates the docking feature of Windows 7 which will move windows that are centered or on another side to any placement you’d like on your monitor. Try it out, this is a cool feature.
• Shift + Windows Key + Left or Right Arrow – This is similar to the docking feature, but is faster- it takes a window all the way to the left or right without stopping in at another “docking station.”
• Windows Key + P – Shifts between various display modes.
Unfortunately, Windows did forget to include a few really cool features, despite the overall ease of their install. For example- there is no way to span the task bar across multiple screens. So, despite having multiple monitors, all of your applications have to stay on the home monitor. This is the opposite of what you would expect- that each screen would have a taskbar and icons that includes the programs we’re using. Some paid programs that help with this are Ultramon, Actual Multiple Monitors and Display Fusion.
We’ll start with Ultramon: It will set you back about $40, but it has been around for a long time and there are a lot of people that still use it. It includes features such as the spanning taskbar, display profiles and title bar buttons for easily moving and stretching windows. This is an awesome program and well worth the 40 bucks you’ll shell out for it.
Display Fusion Pro: This program ROCKS! It costs $25 and does all of the things that Ultramon does, and includes specialized keyboard shortcuts for moving windows between monitors and a multi-screen taskbar that features Aero Peak. You can try a free version of this program for 30 days before you pay too!
Last and not least is Actual Multiple Monitors (AMM): It’s not quite a well known as the above mentioned programs, but it is an excellent program. It supports multi-screen screensavers and wallpaper and has a fantastic spanning taskbar that has many extra features, such as being able to put a start button on all of the monitors, group similar icons, see download progress across the toolbar and more! This program is certainly worth a gander if you’re looking for those extra features.
Now that you’ve got everything hooked up and your secondary programs running isn’t it time to put the pedal to the metal and really customize this baby. You can do this with some awesome multiple monitor wallpapers. There are a ton of sites out there that specialize in this, so I won’t name drop. Some of my favorite image sites are imgur.com and flickr.com- both feature some truly awesome HD multi-screen wallpapers that you’re going to love!
Screen savers for your multiple screen computer are really dependent on how your system is setup. That said, using some of the above mentioned software, you should be able to find screen savers that will run on your computer. If you’re cheating the system with the original graphics card + an additional be forewarned that you may have some issues.

Regardless of who you are, you can get into the FOREX exchange market with very little initial investment capital and come out of the other side with huge heaping profits. The foreign exchange market, referred to as FOREX for short, is a global market, with no central positioning that is used to trade currencies. There are centers around the globe which function as the anchors of trade between buyers and sellers. The beauty of FOREX is that unlike the stock market, it is a 24 hour trading market, open 5 days a week (hey, even these guys need a weekend.) The idea of this market is to determine the relative value of currency between different countries. This means FOREX can help assist international trade and investment.
Transactions occur by purchasing one type of currency with another type of currency. So for example, if you have American dollars, it might be beneficial to buy British Pounds when they are weak, and then sell when they have gone up in value. The modern market began forming in the 1970 after restrictions were somewhat relaxed and countries change from fixed exchange rates to floating exchange rates.

They include the interbank market which handles large commercial banks. The interbank market is considered very secretive. The keep tabs on the spread, which is the difference between the bid and the ask prices, however, this information is not shared with anyone outside of the inner circle of these markets. These so-called levels of access are determined by something called the “line” which is the amount of money of money being exchanged. It is worth noting that the top tier interbank traders account for around 53 percent of all trades.
For those of us that aren’t comfortable making the exchanges ourselves, there are investment firms that handle the exchange. These guys will handle large accounts like pension funds and endowments. They use the exchange to simply facilitate transactions between other foreign securities. However, there are some firms that “play” the market in an attempt to profit for their customers.
If you were to get involved in the market yourself, you would be what are considered a retail exchange trader- a fast growing segment of the FOREX market. These are considered speculative traders and are an important segment of the market.
