For the modern office worker of nearly any field, using a multiple monitor computer has become a necessity. In fact, most offices have gone from using a dual monitor computer to using a triple monitor computer. The result has been an increase in productivity among office workers across the board, with profits soaring and people better able to perform unique functions at their jobs. It’s been a great move in most industry. This trend seems to have stemmed from the day trading stock industry, as well as the FOREX market, where multiple screens are needed to process large amounts of information very quickly. that professional day traders use professional trading computers, and they do so for a whole multitude of great reasons. In this article we’re going to talk about what a trading computer is and how you can use a trading computer to make your day trading or FOREX trading business more profitable.
Day trading, as a general rule, revolves around being able to quickly make important decisions and then act on those decisions on a moment’s notice. In other words, you don’t really have time to mess around once you’ve decided that you need to make a trade. This is why having the appropriate equipment is so important. This day in age, there is no reason for a day trader to have a computer with a processor slower than the i5 from Pentium. Likewise, you should not even consider operating with less than 4 GB of RAM (or memory.)
The number of monitors that you use is important. I can’t stress this enough. Using a single monitor computer is not enough. You need at least 2 monitors to sufficiently view all of the charts, graphs and programs, however, most day traders prefer at least 4 monitors. There are several ways you can accomplish hooking up multiple monitors for your trading computer. If you’re only using two monitors, then you are in luck because most video cards have two monitor outputs and can handle 2 monitors without too much trouble. However, if you want to use more than 2 monitors then you either need a special video card that allows you to hook up multiple monitors (and has sufficient GPU power to run them), or an adapter that will allow you to hook up multiple monitors. Both options will work, however, if you’re building a new trading computer, then ideally you’ll just add the video cards you need as you piece it together. Either the video card or the adapter will cost upwards of $350, but it’s worth it in the long run.
Personally I use 4 monitors to trade and that’s plenty for my needs. Each monitor is assigned a specific function that doesn’t ever change. In fact, when I start my computer, those programs that I use automatically load up to each of the monitors for the function that they’ve been assigned. This works great- I don’t have to think about anything- I just hit the on switch. Furthermore, I only use my trading computer for stock trading, nothing else. No other programs, no other functions. I have a small laptop that I keep nearby for personal use. I’ll get more into why here in a few minutes, but you must know that your trading computer shouldn’t be used for any other function.
Another thing to keep in mind when you are building your trading computer is your internet connection. You need to have a solid, fast connection as well as a solid backup connection. 10Mbs should be your minimum, but I really recommend that you go with a 20Mbs or upward. The last thing that you want is to get a connection that isn’t fast enough to handle all the up/down data and lag a transaction. Most cable companies are now offering 50Mbs connections and honestly, these are perfect. Verizon’s FIOS service is another great option (although they aren’t available in many areas yet. Keep in mind too, you should never do trading in public places where connections may become unreliable. The library, Starbucks, etc- these are bad ideas. Make sure you stay away.
For your back up connection, it’s a good idea to use another provider. I can’t tell you the number of times that I’ve been working and my cable internet goes down (I’m in Florida, so thunderstorms are common and we often see our cable go out.) My back up is an 6Mbs DSL connection. It’s not super fast, but I can usually count on it being up in the event that I need a quick backup. It’s setup on its own router, so in the event that I need to use it, all I have to do is switch over via my desktop settings. As a little tip, make that if you use this setup, you label your routers something easy to remember, like Router 1 and Router 2 or “main” and “backup” – the last thing you need is to worry about which router you want to connect to in the mean time.
Something that a lot of people just getting into day trading may not realize is that you need access to real time data, which you can’t simply get free. Most of the stats you see elsewhere are delayed 10-15 minutes, sometimes more. This simply will not do for a day trader, so you must purchase a data feed from your broker or another service. It will end up costing an additional $100 a month, but it is a must have if you want to be successful.
If you’re considering building a day trading computer on your own, then more power to you. Multiple Screen Displays

One of my favorite stories occurred last year and I would like to share it with you. There was a guy that I went to school with that was an expert linguist. He graduated high school with us and then end up going to some Ivy League school, maybe Harvard or Yale, I don’t really know. Anyways, I ran into him last year and we decided to grab a beer and catch up. It is always nice to see the guys that you went to school with, you know? So we’re sitting and chatting and he ends up telling me all about his adventures during college, kind of cool. But then he gets to the stuff that I’m really interested in, how the heck are you making a living. Turns out, the guy does stock trading for a living (go figure) and makes a freakin’ killing (go figure again, right?) After we have set and chatted for quite some time, he says that if I’d like to come over sometime he’ll show me what he does. Apparently the guy lives in some mansion and has these amazing multiple screen displays that he uses to run his business. I’ll admit, I was rather intrigued by the vision he painted of what I imagined would like the bat cave- computer monitors everywhere in some post gothic mansion on a hill on the outskirts of town. So I took him up on his offer.

Well, the week following our chat at the bar I took off towards his house. Turns out it wasn’t that far from where I lived. And while it is a very nice house, it was not quite Wayne Manor either. However, when I got inside and caught a glimpse of several HUGE multiple screen displays I was very impressed. He broke everything down for me. Turns out he trades both FOREX (currency exchange for the layman) and penny stocks. He has a guy that he pays to monitor charts and help him watch for anomalies so that he knows when to make the trade. I couldn’t help but think this was really cool.

So each station of multiple screens had its own purpose. Some were for monitoring charts, other for graphs and the hot screen as he called it was where he kept the actual trading software open 24/7 so that if he needs to make a trade he could easily do so. I was impressed. I started asking some question about why the elaborate setup. He said that up until he had all of these monitors setup up he used a single monitor setup. But then he started noticing that he was missing trades while fumbling through the various charts. With this setup he doesn’t have to worry about missing anything. Pretty cool, I thought. He also said that his productivity levels have got through the roof on both himself and his employees. They are all able to accomplish more during the day because they are not wasting as much time as they were prior to using the multiple monitor setups.

I absolutely love the fact that everything was easily and organized. My only big concerns were, how much does it all cost and where in the world did you get this stuff. Day Traders: What Type of Computer Should You Use

If you have a business enterprise, having the proper equipment to do the job is one of the most important aspects. Day trading is certainly no exception. Since you were searching for day trading equipment, then it’s probably safe to assume that you are aware of the existence of server farms in both Connecticut and New York. Don’t expect this to be an architecture document for building a new data center: it’s not. That would take far too long to explain and would likely still just leave you with more questions. Instead, let’s go over the basic equipment that you’ll need to get started day trading. Some of these things may seem like common sense, but hopefully you’ll finish the entire article and this will give you some direction regarding what you need to buy.
Remember, your equipment needs are just as important as your approach to day trading. Without both, you’re bound to be lost and to lose money. Here’s why having the right computer is so important: day trading means making quick decisions. There will be times when you are involved in a trade for as little as 10 seconds. That means you need a day trading computer that is powerful enough to handle those demands. A decent starting place might be a Pentium i3, but don’t be afraid to get the best, a Pentium i7 is a great piece so hardware that will make sure you’ve got the processing power need to make trades in real time. For memory, anything less than 2 gigabytes is just asking for trouble.
The next thing that you need to consider is your monitors. Different day traders prefer different setups, but having at least 4 monitors allows trading of different stocks and technical indicators all very quickly. Some might even say this is a personal preference; in fact there are day traders that use 12 or even more monitors, as they have different ideas of what should be used where.

3. Don’t try to trade with a 3G service, tethered or otherwise. This simply isn’t fast enough- 3G is the equivalent of a budget DSL connection. It simply won’t work for what you’re trying to do.
Your next factor to consider is having an appropriate data feed. Day traders need real time data, not the 10 minute lag you get through news.yahoo.com or other free feeds. You can purchase this feed from your broker. The fees vary from broker to broker, but for a Level 2 information real time feed, expect to pay $100 a month.
Another important consideration should be to have a back up computer with the trading software and anything else you may need ready to go. In the event of a computer crash, the last thing you want is to risk thousands of dollars (or much more) because you didn’t have a backup plan. A little common sense can go a long way in this department. Don’t find yourself in a bind because you didn’t think ahead. A back up internet connect isn’t a bad idea either. Yes, you’ll pay a bit more up front, but compared to the thousands you risk losing in the event that your connect goes down, this seems like a rather small price to pay.
Software on your day trading computer should be kept to a minimum. Don’t load extra applications on this computer- just load the applications that you absolutely need. You can add MS Office and your choice of anti-virus software, but otherwise, keep your computer void.
Your day trading system should be well thought out and designed with the ideas mentioned above in mind. You never want to deal with unexpected surprises, such as your machine locking up at 9:30 AM breakout, but

How to Make Windows Format Your Multiple Monitors the Right Way

If you have multiple monitors and each is of your monitors is a different height, then it can be extremely frustrating to try and move the mouse pointer between the monitors. In this article I’m going to discuss how you can make this process much smoother and less frustrating for you.
Step number one is aligning the monitors correctly. I’m going to explain first how to do this in Windows 7. The process is slightly different for older versions of Windows, but we’ll get there in a minute, ok? In Windows 7, the easiest way to navigate to the display settings is to simply open the start menu and type ‘display settings’ and hit enter. This is where Windows 7 really does have an advantage over older versions of Windows, and one of the reasons I have no problem recommending people use it. If you’re using Windows Vista (hey guys, time to upgrade- get on the ball!) then just right click your desktop and click ‘Personalize.” Next, from the “Personalize Appearance” menu, click “Display Settings.” In Windows XP (you guys still use this versions of Windows?) right click on your desktop and select “Properties,” then in “Display Properties,” then select the “Settings” tab.
Now, regardless of what version of Windows you are using, you should be able to change the appearance of

Multiple Monitor Case Study

A little bit about me: I run a small consultant business. I’ve been a day trader since the late 1980’s and a lot of things have happened since then. I went from relying on telephones and cable news for more information, to using an advanced system with a multiple monitor computer system that helps me generate all the information I need to make successful trades online.
